Jeff Kohls (on left in image) is a Social Studies teacher in Buena Vista, Colorado. He is also the winner of an iPad from eChalk’s first ever tweetaway that occurred during ISTE.
Jeff has taught high school for five years and regularly uses technology in his classroom. His classroom has an interactive whiteboard on which he likes to use Google Earth and other similar applications for Geography lessons.
Jeff is also the Student Council Advisor at his High School. In this role he uses social media to communicate with students. While the students are skeptical about Twitter, he finds that Facebook communication is an easy way to engage them beyond the confines of the school.
Jeff uses Twitter to expand his social media network professionally. He jokes, “My students say that Facebook is for kids, and Twitter is for adults.” He has exponentially grown his Twitter following while at ISTE and is seeking new ways of leveraging it for professional development.
The tweetaway was a part of a larger promotion featuring the launch of eChalk Nation, the company’s new online environment for eChalk users and general education technology advocates to engage eachother online. You can learn more about the promotion at www.eChalknation.com.
